Hamilton Mill Coffee Wars

by Matt Fagioli on May 22, 2008

You’ve probably figured this out, but… …Coffee is big business in Gwinnett County! At the Mall of Georgia, there are now FOUR Starbucks locations within 1 square mile (2 inside the mall and 2 outside the mall). In talking with one of the store managers during the 2007 holiday season, he shared that ALL 4 locations were grossing more money than the previous year! You would think that revenue would drop at the existing stores when the new stores opened — but revenue went UP at the existing locations and the new locations exceeded projected goals. Mind Boggling Numbers.

Coffee is the preferred addiction for most all of our local moms, dads — and even some of the kids! When the Hamilton Mill Starbucks opened a few years ago, I realized that we had “arrived” on the global map as an acceptable destination for even the most discerning home buyers! A year later we were blessed with yet another great coffee shop, Beaner’s (now called Bigby’s) — located just across the highway from Hamilton Mill Starbucks.

If you’ve watched the construction coming in this summer in front of Wal-mart, you’ve probably noticed that we are “expecting” a 2nd Starbucks to open right across the street from Bigby’s Coffee in just a few months. At first glance you might think that Starbucks will take over and perhaps really hurt the business over at Bigby’s. But, I’m betting that both stores will do a great job of feeding my coffee addiction and profits will soar!
