hiIn the coming weeks and months you may start to see a number of your Hamilton Mill neighbors out walking on a very regular basis, more than likely wearing pink hats, shorts, shirts and more. There is a group of dedicated women that have made the decision to participate in the Atlanta 3 Day Walk to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the cure. This is an awesome event that helps change the lives of so many individuals on different levels.
If you are not aware of what the 3 day is, it is a 60 mile walk over a three day period to raise funds to help eliminate breast cancer. Nearly all of us knows someone who has been affected by cancer of some sort and this coming fall our Hamilton Mill neighbors will be taking to the streets of Atlanta on October 24-26th to help with the cause.
The “Hamilton Mill Against Breast Cancer” team has already met to discuss training schedules and various fundraiser events for the event and will start to train in earnest in June. Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $2,200 to help find a cure. Since its inception in 2003, more than $220 million has been raised through Breast Cancer 3-Day donations, contributions and sponsorships. In 2006, the Breast Cancer 3-Day raised $86 million through donations, contributions and sponsorships. Breast Cancer 3-Day walkers travel an average of 20 miles a day during the event. Participants are provided meals, snacks, drinks, shower facilities, tents, safety guidelines and 24-hour medical support — all resources needed for a safe and memorable experience. A crew of volunteers spends the entire weekend with walkers and staff to make the event possible.
