Customers here in Gwinnett County ask me all the time about Zillow.com. If you have not seen it, this is one of the online real estate companies where you can get a “zestimate” of your homes value. The accuracy has been notoriously low — usually off by 10% or more of the actual value. Over the last 2 years (the company is only 2 years old) they have greatly improved their computation methods. Zillow reported this week that the mean difference between the zestimate and the actual value is approximately 8.8% now. A big improvement, but still a long way from real accuracy.
One of the coolest features at Zillow.com is the “Make Me Move” feature. You can go find your Hamilton Mill house (or any other properties that you own) and “claim” them by entering more details, etc. About 1 million people have claimed their homes so far. Zillow is using this data to further improve pricing accuracy.
