Hamilton Mill United Wins in School Redistricting!

Nov 10th 2007
hi

The Gwinnett County Board of Education has just revised the school redistricting originally planned for the 2008-09 school year. This is very exciting news because The amended map shows all of Hamilton Mill now united in one elementary school, Puckett’s Mill. The first proposal would have sent most of our kids to the Puckett’s Mill Elementary and about 300 children to Fort Daniel Elementary. While it does require a change for all of our elementary age kids from Duncan Creek, we’re very excited about keeping Hamilton Mill United. Hamilton Mill parents and community members turned in about 1,200 redistricting comment forms urging the system to keep the children together. They said Puckett’s Mill had enough space for their children and stressed the importance of keeping the community together. Gwinnett school leaders have made the changes after reading the suggestions from parents and community members. Greg Stanfield, the system’s director of planning, shared the revised maps with School Board members Thursday. School district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said more changes are possible before board members vote on the proposal Dec. 13. Two public meetings on the plan are scheduled for next week.
